Last night I was taken to a magical land of fish fry & $2 PBR’s & potato pancakes with apple sauce. A little place called the VFW on 63rd and Harlem. This little gem of a place serves up fish fry all year round, but especially popular during the Lenten season. The decor is amazing, the clientele perfect for people watching and the mixed drinks stiff and in plastic- which is perfect because I almost always spill. And perhaps best of all everyone had that Midwestern hospitality I’ve come to love- no one batted a lash at our table of lesbians in all black. Or in my case a PBR shirt.
We are cute.
Afterward we headed over to the perfect bar called Forest View, which apparently is the name of the town we were in but I had a much different idea of where it came from…
There was Melissa Etheridge and Otis Redding on the jute box. We met Marge, the owner who was the sole bar tender in the place. She made me shots with liquor infused whip cream and gave me a gift of a miller high life ice bucket that is now being used as a planter.
The outfit was classic, the friends hilarious & the night perfect. <3
The shirt is a borrow from one of my favorite people ever. It is inspiration for all of us. The skirt and belt are thrifted. The haircuts brand new & the glasses from see, one of the best eye wear stores out there.
The picture in the background was painted by my girlfriend. It’s a picture of her father in Viet Nam. That’s a joint in his hand. I love it.
